Seven Questions With Meredith Smith

Name: Meredith Smith
Company: Sweet Anthem Perfumes
Finalist Perfume: Owl
Category: Artisan

1. Where are you, right now?
I'm in SUNNY Seattle, WA.

2. What was the last thing you searched for, in Google?
Normcore

3. What's a song you are listening to, these days?
A Little Bit Of Everything by Dawes

4. What led you to perfumery?
Sweet Anthem began as my indie, DIY-style publishing company that I ran during college. After college, I found myself experimenting with perfumery. Encouraging friends led me to Etsy, and 3 years after the initial launch, I quit my day job in graphic design to pursue perfumery full time. It's been a wild, smelly, seven-year ride so far.

5. What excites you about 'Owl'?
I'm seriously in love with vetiver and got to explore many facets of the grassy note in this perfume. Plus, the brief came from my community of fans and customers, and they're the best.

[Ed. note: Owl is a community-sourced perfume, stemming from a series of creative briefs proposed and voted on by Sweet Anthem's followers and fans.]

6. Name three scents (other than your own) that you are a big fan of.
Sepia by Aftelier
The Soft Lawn by Imaginary Authors
Zeta by Andy Tauer

7. If you could give a few words of advice to a young person trying to do something of note in the world, what would you say?
Do what you love.
