A lifelong fragrance enthusiast, Rubia enjoyed discovering and learning about fragrances at a young age. The first recollection of exploring scent started with her mother’s dresser, containing a mix of designer brands from Europe to hand made ones from South Asia and other parts of the world. Her local surroundings growing up in Canada were always filled with scent exploration as well as when she traveled to places such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, France, Pakistan, and the US; which include, New York and where she currently resides in LA.
In 2016, Rubia was invited to LA to explore the possibility of moving here. While visiting, she was browsing a list of local events online when she came across a fragrance making workshop being offered at the Institute of Art and Olfaction (IAO). With her first visit, she was in love and it was one of the deciding factors of moving to LA and the start of her formal fragrance education.
During her time as a student at the IAO, Rubia participated in a variety of the IAO's Perfume Design Challenges. These challenges entailed a theme or story given, which were then translated to the development of a fragrance to match. With her fragrance making skills and experience gained at the IAO, Rubia is now an independent perfumer who makes bespoke fragrances upon request. Rubia was recently appointed Board Member at the IAO as well, where she participates in program development and helps prepare for the yearly IAO fragrance awards.
